About this deal

Both models use the same six-hole lacing system plus a seventh hole at the top if you need to use a different shoe lacing technique. The stretch mesh upper feels and looks pretty nice too. No hot spots, no pressure points whatsoever, and I think it can accommodate a large number of foot types, from wide to narrow(ish). It’s a simple, yet clean-looking shoe that has gradually dropped the gaudy, overlay-happy BS of previous models. Everyone’s all about midsoles and plates nowadays, but I appreciate a good, clean upper. A big difference between the two shoes is the flex grooves carved into the outsole. The grooves on the Glycerin 17 created channels that ran horizontally across most of the forefoot. But the Glycerin 18 shortened the channels and reduced the number of them from six to five. For less experienced and heavier runners, the Glycerin will be able to handle any kind of speed and distance. These adaptations happen every time your foot touches the ground. The Glycerin has a lighter and overall softer version of the DNA Midsole for an even more plush ride.

The one area where the Glycerin 19 beats all other max-cushioned trainers is its magnificent upper which is an engineering masterpiece. ADRIENNE: The Glycerin 18 is perfect for runners who think there’s no such thing as too much cushioning. If nothing else, Brooks knows it’s target consumer. But does the Glycerin 18 live up to this assertion? We will see. If you’re looking for a super soft, super-bouncy ride similar to the ZoomX Invincible, you won’t find it in the Glycerin 19. There’s nothing wrong with being a firm, max-cushioned shoe. Some runners prefer firmer shoes because they are more stable and more responsive but the problem is that the advertising for the Glycerin is misleading. The downside is that the rubber wears down faster than the norm. On my pair, on the outer lateral heel area, the rubber has already worn down 2-3mm so I expect to reach midsole foam by the time I hit 300 kilometres which is not ideal.I wish I could say more for the midsole and ride of this trainer, however, I just am not one of those runners Brooks is looking for to wear this shoe. It’s definitely not a bad shoe and is approaching OG status, however, the ride just didn’t do much for me. I was looking for a little bit of a response, or just a little more life in these, but found I had to work to keep my cadence and usual stride up. They didn’t feel bad, just not as exciting as other models at the same price point, say the New Balance 1080 and the Saucony Triumph 17. I guess I have become one of those runners now who expects to be entertained by their footwear. Sign of the times. The double-jacquard mesh upper is slightly stretchy, which adapts to how your foot moves and splays. Plus, the internal bootie gives your foot smooth entry and exit. The updated design of the foam does cut down on some of the weight and offers a slightly softer ride. However, the difference during side-by-side runs, has been negligible. Disclaimer: I love these shoes so much that It may sound as if Brooks is paying me to write this, or that I know nothing about shoes, but no, Brooks is not paying me, and I have experience with over 100 different running shoe models.

An issue with the traction is that the Glycerin has small grooves in the outsole which collect small pebbles. This decreases the lifespan of the outsole, disrupts the traction slightly, and just feels gross underfoot. This is only a small gripe since the pebbles it collects are so small. Guaranteed durability The place where Brooks put most of their attention is in a slightly updated upper. Although the look of the upper is very similar to last year, Brooks changed the mesh materials to use a double jacquard mesh.A padded tongue and collar add an extra secure fit to keep the foot from slipping in or out of the shoe. Additional support is provided through the 3D Fit Print technology prints on the sides, which are stylish yet functional and add a splash of colour while reinforcing the structure of the shoe. The biggest difference between the outsoles of the Glycerin 19 and the 18 is that the 19 has one long price of rubber on the medial side that extends from the rearfoot, all the way to the end of the midfoot just before where the forefoot starts. Running enthusiasts who enjoy the Nike Downshifter, Mizuno Wave Rider and New Balance Fresh Foam Arishi will also enjoy the Brooks Glycerin 17 for the way it supports dynamic, multi-directional movement. Brooks Glycerin 17 vs Brooks Glycerin 16

The Glycerin may be sleek, but it is certainly heavy-duty. All the materials in the shoe are very high quality and durable. The Glycerin 18 is a really well-rounded running shoe,” he says. “I didn’t have to think about the cushioning or my footstrike. It just turned over naturally from step to step.” Brooks is well known for their neutral road running shoes, and this iteration of the Glycerin range follows the standard conventions with models available for men and women as well as widths varying from narrow to x-wide. For more control, our women’s Glycerin GTS 20 and men’s Glycerin GTS 20 are designed to keep you steady. Built-in stability support keeps you grounded and a plush interior softens every step. Even as you take routine runs, you're giving your feet a little TLC.I love how straightforward the Glycerin is,” one tester says. “There’s no guessing at laces or fit, and it’s not trying too hard. It’s simple, and it works.” The BioMoGo part of BioMoGo DNA means that in an anaerobic landfill, the midsole will decompose within 20 years, compared to the thousands of years that it takes other midsole materials to decompose. This long piece of rubber makes ride transitions smoother and also increases midfoot stability and structure because there is less flex in the midfoot. As I said in the introduction, I put 5000 miles into a previous model of the Glycerin. Was that a good idea? No, but this does speak to the durability of the shoe.
