The NRO maintains an astonishing arsenal of cutting-edge spy technologies – worldwide electronic intercepts, spy satellites, silent embedded relay chips in telecomm products, even a global naval-recon network known as Classic Wizard…a secret web of 1,456 hydrophones mounted on seafloors around the world, capable of monitoring ship movement anywhere on the globe. Eventually, the Senator Sexton's true motive for wanting to abolish NASA is revealed to be his work for the interests of private corporations from the Space Frontier Foundation, who wish to profit off of space exploration in the event that NASA is dismantled.

Deception Point by Dan Brown | Goodreads

Brown’s latest novel, Origin, explores two of the fundamental questions of humankind: Where do we come from? Thought leaders in science and religion contributed guidance in ensuring the film took great care covering this intersection. People look at Susan Fletcher and think to themselves “How does an IQ of 170 fit into a body that attractive? Senator Sexton, the President’s main opponent, and Rachel’s father, a fierce critic of NASA in favour of privatised space exploration?Sexton, Tolland, and Marlinson work together to battle the Delta Force squad, killing Delta Two and Delta Three. With the Oval Office in the balance, the President dispatches White House Intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton to the Arctic to verify the authenticity of the find. And this allows us to overlook weaknesses in the novel: characters who are almost three-dimensional but not quite.

Susan Fletcher was the head of NSA's Cryptography Division while Becker was a university professor who helped government agencies with translation other than his full time job. Also, plenty of non-fiction books are based on theses whose interpretation of facts do not survive criticism well, but again we are more forgiving because of the type of work it is and its objectives. This is the first book written by Dan Brown and, although it is good, it does not have the same hook as the following ones.

One could already see the direction Brown would go with his recipe of conspiring the heck out of the literary world with his first work. Almost as soon as it seems the matter is all sown up, the evidence supporting the find begins to unravel. But it must be said that its an adventure less compelling than The Da Vinci Code, even more contrived; devoid of interesting characters but plagued with dead ends, ineffective repetitiveness, empty journeys. Norah Mangor: A prickly glaciologist, Norah has a tough, tomboyish personality; she is suffocated with ice and snow early in the book by Pickering's death squad and was thrown into the Arctic Ocean along with her sled.

Presidential Decision Directive 25 (PDD 25) grants Delta Forces “freedom from all legal accountability,” including exception from the 1876 Posse Comitatus Act – a statute imposing criminal penalties for anyone using the military for personal gain, domestic law enforcement, or unsanctioned covert operations.

This 2001 non-Langdon novel is one of Brown’s finest, breaking new ground and moving out of his comfort zone. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. This thriller - later auctioned into a multi-million-dollar Hollywood film treatment - focuses on Robert Langdon, a Harvard University professor of symbology, who is in Paris on a speaking engagement when he is woken in the middle of the night by the French police and implicated in the murder of the Louvre Museum curator. After sharing his discovery with the rest of the team, the four remaining team members are attacked by the Delta Force soldiers. Wailee Ming: A paleontologist with an impeccable dress habit; he is drowned early in the book by Pickering's death squad when he attempted to investigate an irregularity in the extraction hole.
